How to Set Up Truffle Journal with ChatGPT

Truffle Journal is built on a simple idea.
The best part of a conversation is often small.
A sentence that clicks.
A plan you want to keep.
An idea you don't want to lose.
This guide walks you through the setup once, then gets out of the way.
Before you begin
You'll want:
- an iPhone
- TestFlight installed
If it isn't on your phone yet, download it from the App Store first. TestFlight is Apple's app for beta apps.
- your ChatGPT account
- a few quiet minutes for setup

Download the iOS app
Start with the journal itself.
During beta, Truffle Journal is installed through TestFlight.

Completion check
Before moving on, make sure:
- TestFlight is installed
- Truffle Journal is installed on your iPhone
- you can open the app
Create your Truffle Journal account
Once the app is open, create your account inside Truffle Journal.
There are three small steps:
1. Your name
Enter your name.
2. Your email
Enter your email, then verify it with the code sent to your inbox.
3. Your password
Set a password and stay logged in inside the app.

Completion check
Before moving on, make sure:
- your Truffle Journal account has been created
- your email has been verified
- you are logged in inside the app
- your password is saved somewhere safe
Connect Truffle Journal to ChatGPT
Now connect Truffle Journal inside ChatGPT.
This is the part that lets ChatGPT save, list, and search your journal when you ask.
Open ChatGPT
Go to chatgpt.com and sign in to your own ChatGPT account.
Open Settings
Click your profile icon + name in the bottom-left corner.
Then click Settings.
Turn on Developer mode
In Settings, select Apps in the sidebar.
Open Advanced settings.
Turn Developer mode ON.
Once it's on, you'll see Create app in the top-right corner.

Create the ChatGPT app
Click Create app.
Fill out the form like this:
Use Truffle Journal when the user wants to save something to their journal, review past entries, or search for something they wrote. If the user says "Add to Truffle Journal" (or asks to log/save a thought), create a new entry using add_memory. If they ask to see their entries—optionally by date or other filters—use list_memories. If they ask to find a specific past entry or topic, use search_memory.

Completion check
Before moving on, make sure:
- Developer mode is ON
- the app name is exactly "Truffle Journal"
- the form is fully filled out
- you clicked Create
Log in (ChatGPT side)
After you click Create, you'll be redirected to a login page.
This login is for Truffle Journal inside ChatGPT.
Use the same account + password you use in the Truffle Journal iOS app.
Once that's done, you're connected.

Completion check
Before moving on, make sure:
- you signed in with the same Truffle Journal account you created in the app
- the connection is complete
- ChatGPT can now save, list, and search your journal when you ask
Now you're ready
Once setup is complete, just chat as you normally do.
When something is worth keeping, say:
"Add to Truffle Journal."That's it.
A good thought doesn't have to stay in the scroll.
More than a saved note
Saving is only the beginning.
Truffle Journal gives you a place to shape what you keep.
Write
Add your own notes, context, and thoughts.
Organize
Add tags and structure so things are easier to return to later.
Remind
Use reminders and checklists to come back to what matters.
